financialization has crept into the video game industry, same problem that the music and film industries faced earlier. now all we get is franchise slop, woke garbage, pay2win, etc.
It's the same thing that happened to movies, games have become extremely mainstream and AAA companies are "too big to fail", so there's very little incentive for quality, innovation, or pleasing the audience. This is also why indie is different, unlike AAA companies, they're niche and have to prove their worth of praise in order to become popular.
