very interesting that pestilence replaced conquest as one of the four horsemen in the public imagination given that disease is very famously a weapon of imperialism. i wonder if there’s a connection at all

having had time to think about it i don’t believe aronofsky’s THE WHALE is quite as pernicious as i did to begin with. i’m more annoyed with how self-congratulatory it is. like we get it. you read the same book we all did in high school. you want a fucking oscar??

One of my favorite movies. I always want to watch it in the spring or when I'm melancholy. My favorite part is when they are at Petit Trianon. Her desperation to pretend to be anywhere else is very childish and relatable to me. I enjoyed this music video you've made!

it’s not aronofsky’s best work, that’s for sure. i’m inclined to believe they keep restating the themes of the film over and over because… why? because we’re expected to be THAT distracted by a character who is fat? it feels a bit like one of those stories where someone comes up with the title first and writes everything else retroactively.
were it not for the film’s heavy-handedness i probably wouldn’t believe, at least not to the extent i do, that aronofsky treats food addiction like more of a spectacle than the other addictions/obsessions in his filmography.
