The Japanese culture has such an enigmatic relationship to cats, from the mythology behind the "maneki-neko" or ('beckoning cat') statues, to "Tashirojima", the place informally known as 'Cat Island'. I also can't help but wonder if "The Cat and the City" is influenced by Natsume Soseki's famous "I Am a Cat" novel to some extent. In general, it sounds fascinating!
