my brain still clings on to this dumb misconception I've tricked myself into believing a long while ago that north americans don't keep cats as pets in their homes. seeing north american neocitizens sharing their pet cats photos here still makes me feel a little dissonance even though it's obviously a very wrong thought not based on anything whatsoever

i grew up on a farm in the US and i too was shocked to find out that cats (and also dogs) were kept indoors in urban areas. i thought all animals stayed outdoors
