Well, you see—I'm working on the novel once again, but the thing is — the evil gng (I swear I have no better words than this) wants something pleasurable or satisfactory. Not sure what it should be, though— and I didn't want something too general, like a money-greedy pig or pleasure in THAT sense- I was thinking that maybe these people were wanting to feel dominant by controlling people, but

I'm only on chapter 6 in part 1, but I like it very much so far!!!!! My only concern is that I don't know what the main character looks like, but I assumed its intentional since it's in first person. Other than that I find the story very very interesting B))

Okay heres the critique: The MC is built different like hes not freaking out while the dude just got kidnapped. However if this is intentional thats completely fine. Next the transitions sometimes feel abrupt so maybe you could add a sentence or two to bridge scenes.

Ohhh in my writing I kinda have a villain like this. Well, a few. But the biggest one is they find pleasure in being in control over people yeah. It's not even making them like do anything weird specifically, just the control itself. One of the villains like slightly appears so far in a backstory but his thing is he uses magic influence people and feel in control that way. So that's kinda my go to answer at least
probably some kind of addiction, gambling, substance use? they technically are very pleasurable, but at cost of their lives and everyone around them lol
Or like super destructive kind of escapism, like literally playing pretend irl with people and seeing them for what they're literally not
do you want this factor to make them more humane or even more corrupt? unless you're making a cartoon villain with nothing irredeemable, id suggest having a small community they built up. kinda similar to gus fring in breaking bad, he basically created and taken care of a small town of impoverished people in memory of a someone close to him.
