@toffii it's my favorite painting of a cat ever! <3 it reminds me of how my cat often sits and looks at me. lol. it's based on a painting called 'the seated cat' by the chinese painter chu ling. the mug is from 1988 and it's by the metropolitan museum of art. i bet you could find it and/or the matching plate for a reasonable price online! :)
