fr though I'm in university & in my business classes it's so weird how they're like 'yeah you can use it, BUT' like dude you don't think people are going to find their way, somehow, to still cheat to the fullest extent under your nose? Like come on man.

is there anything you can do to push back against this? this is genuinely a bad idea from the school. wikipedia is clear about their references, which you can check easily and are very constantly maintained esp with wayback machine. i am thinking of making a zine for grad students and labs against AI usage in ecology research, but it sounds like it would be useful for high schools too.

@bottomfeeding for me, it's a district-wide implement. i wont be sharing which district for obvious privacy reasons, but from what i've heard, the admins of our district were basically bribed by an education-oriented AI company called magicschool into expediting the implementation of AI tools into my school... ALLEGEDLY, the district started giving teachers bonuses if they implemented magicschool into their 1/?

lessons. im pretty inclined to believe this because ive had teachers act outright hostile towards me for refusing to do magicschool lessons... last year the district tried to add some standards on using ai by using a "red/yellow/green light" system but my teachers rarely enforce any of it tbh. as for what to do... i guess the best thing is to organize, petition, tell your local reps to push back on this stuff, 2/3

and vocally refuse to use AI in school when possible. as a personal example of this last point, i'm baptized catholic, and since the pope is anti-AI in most cases (including education iirc), im able to use religion as a virtually airtight excuse not to use AI, since the school could get sued for religious discrimination if they force me to use it despite that 3/3

this is so sad to play fast and loose with someone's education and capacity to learn like that :( unfortunately i am also not surprised it's happening..AI companies have way too much power and leverage in so many spheres rn. i think u r so cool that ure pushing back like that...and im not religious but im kinda glad the pope pushes back too haha. actually... that opens up an interesting can of worms re catholic schools and AI usage since the pope is anti-AI arent catholic schools meant to follow directives from the vatican ? wud the school be committing heresy ? lol

that's a good question! i'm not entirely sure but i don't believe it'd be heresy because encyclicals (like the one the pope spoke about his anti-ai stance in) are meant to act more like a guiding principle/suggestion rather than a hard rule... would be kinda nice if it was just straight up banned tho 💔
