The fart counter thing in Kusamakura also stood out to me when I read it. Soseki and detectives feels like something somebody could write a master's thesis about.

loved this 'When a man in Ancient Greece got on a boat and went to Asia Minor, he wouldn’t mentally place himself on a map, but instead just travelled through physical space, the same way that we might walk from room to room.' I have also been on that pirate-themed ship :))
