how does it impact hiding page updates? As far as I can tell it simply searches the html pages for given keywords, so I don't see how that can impact hiding page updates unless you just don't want the page at all to not be seen

not only does it feel like an invasion, it ruins the element of surprise of going into a site completely blind without knowing what's there besides the tags on the site's profile. it genuinely feels like these indie admins are evolving backwards.

this feels like a non-issue unless you only use the web editor for your pages though, you can just store .html and other files you don't want the public to see on local space?

i personally found it useful to search for things like graphics or blinkies, maybe searching for specific interests too? i think neocities was never really meant to be private either way, people can still access files you don't share by typing the url. thats just how html works. i agree with the comment above about just not uploading things you don't want anyone to see

OHH WOW Thank you for informing me, as someone who has a second wip website ive been keeping hidden as i work on finishing it, words cannot describe how frustrating this is to hear! I would actually sell my kidneys if it meant we were informed on any the changes that happen on this site! I've been considering buying pro but the general unprofessionalism is really making me reconsider!

(I should add i know you can just self host, but sometimes stuff appears differently on neocities so its sometimes good to double check before you make it public, especially if you're trying to share it with a smaller group for feedback.)

it's not a matter of what's practical, it's a matter of what is currently happening. like it or not, people do have private pages that they want to keep private despite uploading them to their webhosts. assume i have the word "nintendo" on 2 public pages and 3 private pages. by searching hotcat for "badgraph1csghost, nintendo" you will be able to see the 3 private instances as well as the 2 public ones.

would it make more sense to simply keep private pages local rather than uploading them here? probably, but that is not what's currently happening on this host. neocities is essentially saying "don't put up anything you wouldn't want your mother to see, because i'm going to try as hard as i can to make sure she sees everything you post here".

i mean i think what they're saying is "here is a search feature so it's easier to find sites that have the content you look for" and that's it LOL. neocities is a host for your (public) website, not a private cloud service... sure people may want to have private pages but why would neocities accomodate for something that was never the point of it at all

i didn't even consider this! thanks for pointing it out; yeah, it is iffy that someone can just find a page you don't have up "publicly" like an old page that's still uploaded but isn't meant to be part of the site anymore, or something very personal. if not just eschewing the search feature, maybe they should add a "private page" feature to compensate.

i'm not on github (never had an acc and they doubled down on the genAI stuff so non buono) but i do know neocities accepts requests or concerns on their page there via issues or pulls. perhaps someone should raise the concern there?

I have been such a hardcore cinnamon fan and believer but man KDE is just plain good. No other DE i've tried has really come close to those two sadly.

like, it IS going to rain. very soon. it would almost have been better if the jar had landed on it and killed it because i basically condemned it to a slow death in the rain.

What I sometimes tried to do is use little bits of scrap wood and sawed-off end of planks to make sorta of slanted wooden huts by putting them in a upside down V shape in the ground. In big pots and planters this can work with bigger wood scraps, but small pots can be tricky. I often used it to keep a useful spider safe or just make a little safe area for things like pillbugs to surface and have a look around.

Oh! I don't think I've said it out loud yet, but I love that you Gremlin are making a little garden! I hope they're doing well, too!

Our garden is too young to have cool bugs yet, which is why im so sad about the ladybug. Barn spiders like to build webs on our porch tho because its so close to a bright light so lookin forward to that 💖🕷

And yeah. Apart from the ladybug, the plants themselves are doing pretty good. We just need to get larger pots. On a budget of 0, larger pots.

@jaiden i apologised to it at the time, but its a bit like somebody breaking your legs, leaving you in the middle of the motorway and saying "get better soon" as they drive away. its really bad luck too because we found a leafhopper on our pepper plant. leafhoppers eat pepper plants. whereas ladybugs eat leafhoppers. we have yet to find any jumping spiders in our garden :(
