Constructors will often have their own blogs and tend to post in both formats from my experience. Occasionally you get charity bundles like Midis for Minnesota that I think have printables. Or you can check https://dailycrosswordlinks.com/ for PDF sources!

I like the idea of saving up search queries in a notebook, it'll be a fun log of the mental paths you were on that day. Might try it myself, I've been wanting to rely on notebooks more!
