I'm a big fan of ratchet but the PS4 retelling didn't quite click with me when I tried it for similar reasons to what you described, plus the pacing felt a bit sluggish to me compared to the PS2 one since they made up for having less planets by making those fewer planets larger and more drawn out. I've got a PS4 again now so I may give it another shot down the line to get myself fully caught up & ready for rift apart
