idk if its any help but usually when i want to change my layout i sketch it first then figure out how i would do each thing i want to do then do a second pass on the layout sketch

I usually just copy paste the code of the page I want to change the layout off into another html file and change it there, that way I don't change the original webpage and mess it up somehow.
