I have decided my next victim for MOUSELING.net's constant renovations: my Outfits page. It's cute as-is, but it could always be cuter, as with the entire site. I like the way my Art and Crafts pages both use thumbnails, and I want to carry that over, but I'm not sure if I should copy the Crafts page functionality (pop-ups) or the Art page functionality (side panel) for the outfits. What do you guys think?

personally im not a fan of the crafts page popup cuz i usually dont expect target=_blank for internal links. then you gotta delete that tab and go back to the main page and open more tabs to see the rest… i think the side panel option is better since it stays on the same page

ok i said that when i saw your craft page on mobile which is why its more annoying... on desktop its slightly less annoying but i think my point still stands

i actually like the pop-ups because not expected. its different. but i think a side panel would be better for your outfits page. i think pop-ups work better when all the content you need is in that 1 pop-up or it's smaller in scale if that makes sense.

uni started. dorm has had troubles with EDUROAM wifi the whole week. i can connect to it on the campus literally on the same street, but the eduroam in the dorm for some reason doesnt like my laptop. last year i could still connect via linux mint, but since ive moved to cachyos i cant anymore

looking online doesnt help either cuz there's a million bajillion people having issues with eduroam. most common complaint is eduroam using deprecated standards or only being usable via deprecated drivers, which would make using eduroam really unsafe. ive still got a few things i can try, but otherwise ill have to dual-boot with Linux Mint just to access my dorm wifi which would suck balls

my uni used eduroam too. i was able to connect to it on linux by changing some connection settings (something to do with PEAP, i know kde and cinnamon have this option) and setting my username to [student id]@[uni email].ie. idk your exact situation though, just thought this might help

Nothing wrong with your tutorial, but astro seems bad. node + npm + 153MB worth of node_modules when most people want to just build a static website? :|

It's a lot, I agree, but I don't think it matters. You install it once, possibly for one site only and I doubt you'd feel the 150mb of disk space taken. It's the only one ssg I liked of jekyll, hugo, eleventy, and of course astro. Each one of them had some drawback and I decided that Astro has less wrong with it, considering the crazy amount of power it gives you

Also remember that only us, nerds, care whether it's 50mb or 150mb for a static site generator. People barely use the storage they have

It's great that it works for you. The main deal breaker for me is not the size. It's npm/javascript/node_modules which from past experiences led me to pain or dependency hell. Also: $ npm ls --all --parseable | tail -n +2 | wc -l 187 Astro has 187 dependencies. That's a lot o_o I'm happy with Hugo, but if it didn't exist I'd probably write my own like @vhimu. I'm curious, what are your experiences with other ssgs?

However, with Python, every single time something was breaking for me, and i used it only a handful of times. >Astro has 187 dependencies. That's a lot o_o Typical NPM bullshit. It is what it is

Hugo I found difficult to customize and its docs were pretty shit. Even now that I'm looking at them I feel lost. So much to click through. May be a skill issue since you customized your hugo site a lot. And Jekyll is just a piece of outdated garbage.

Terrible setup, as you mentioned, dependency hell, high chance that something breaks, abysmal customization, and even its own docs warn you that if you use latest ruby it might break. It's outdated and clunky to use
