Tried to tone down the highlighting on an old blog post (think it got a lil overboard)
nabokov's LOLITA and brontë's WUTHERING HEIGHTS are sometimes described as impossible to adapt. i don't think anything is unadaptable, but i do think it is probably impossible for Hollywood Specifically to adapt these books given that it's filled to the brim with sex pests and racists alike

clark backrooms reminds me of troy from FENCES in that to me he embodies a particular kind of black hypermasculinity where a man is conditioned to believe the only value he has, the only way he can connect with his family emotionally, and as a result the only thing he owes said family is his ability to materially provide for them.

I agree. It feels like maybe he feels bad? Or, I did a bad job, but he knows I can do better so he is trying to be supportive?? I dunno lol. Also, big fermenting weekend coming up for more food posting!

log 2: added a new nonfiction piece. bit barebones but i'm practicing. i don't have many suggestions or much of a conclusion beyond "girl move on." maybe when school starts back up i'll get back into the practice of organizing my thoughts and presenting them in a more academic way
i am supremely annoyed by the new (?) tendency of content creators to preface their every controversial statement with a reminder that their followers have permission to disagree with them. i intend to do no such coddling. think for yourself or die

at best it makes you seem anxious and wishy-washy. at worst it feels terribly condescending. woooowww how gracious of you to not take it personally that i, a stranger to you, actually think labubus are kinda cute. it's so clearly a ploy to fend off the dumbest people in any given audience but i think on some level when you even acknowledge those audience members exist you make yourself accessible to them.

It's not new. Could be more people really are anxious. Could be wariness from the past 18+ years of "followers" taking the term far too seriously. Anyhow, I see a preface as a sign to point to. People who are going to take the difference of opinion as a challenge or an attempt at persuasion will go through it, but then there's the statement to point to if a group or attorney needs to come in and look.
