the entire concept of a 'worksona' still puzzles me even if I can see how it can be helpful or even necessary to prevent burnout... there have def been jobs I've had in the past where it's been difficult to 'turn it on/off' when on the clock. maybe we all could all have benefitted from being in theater as children

@sisterdiecuts I don't personally ascribe to the worksona mindset bc it sounds cutesy to me, but (I'm repeating myself, apologies), it really feels like the private/public self dichotomy trying to reestablish itself to some degree? It seems it is expected of many people to share the minutiae of their privacy on things such as "reels" (they can just not do this but act like they don't have a choice).

@sisterdiecuts but having a pro forma self might reestablish some of these barriers? Taking back agency. Or something! I guess I am a proponent of the non personal yet plesant social interaction. But then again if all you do is work and you work impersonally, there's not much space left to bloom in the meager free time.. and you risk feeling like a non person

Interesting questions re: going to work and the feelings that come with that. For me, as someone who is privileged to have an easy, safe desk job with good benefits, I think your hypothesis about the lack of choice rings the truest. Not to mention the absurd 40-hour workweek. I don't even want to do things I LIKE for 40 hours a week, so I resent it though I'm grateful to have it because I desperately need it.

I reclaim as much of my at-work time for myself by working on any personal projects I can get away with during my workday if time allows, but of course there are limitations. I don't personally think of work as another state of being, but integrated into life like you said where I begrudgingly accept that I must be.

I absolutely hate going to work, every job I've ever had :( I don't feel like a different person while I'm there so much as the lack of choice and the length of the hours and the general way people are treated while on the clock (I've heard this is particularly bad in the US compared to some other cultures? I wouldn't know though) makes me feel like I'm not a person at all when I'm there.

I'm currently waiting to start cosmetology school and once I graduate I'll be mostly my own boss, most likely, I just hope it's better that way.

Wow thank you so much for your thoughts! I am lucky enough to work part time at a job that I find enriching despite the difficulties.. but it is hard not to "what if" a better situation. I think it is hard to tell if having a job will always kind of suck (which I think it will) or if things could be truly better if one were to take chances and mix things up. I suppose taking agency over your own life is always good

do you sew quilts at all, or are just an admirer? :) I've nearly signed up for a quilt-making class a few times, but always held back bc I wasn't sure about the time commitment.

I always enjoy keeping up with your cat features--I often learn about endangered/threatened species that I'd never heard of before. also: how even the most fiercesome wildcats can still have googly eyes ❤️
