I just noticed onio unlisted his Neocities video that blew up on YouTube. I almost considered making my own video to take its place but then I remembered how nice it is to keep this place growing slowly. Not in like a weird gatekeepy we're-all-better-than-the-normies way but in a the-world-sucks-and-I'm-afraid-of-losing-Neocities-to-viral-growth way

yeah. especially because nowadays attention = ddos attacks from bots, and i dont think neocities has enough funding to reliably counterract a botnet if one were to target it

I dont think its bad that ppl are finding out about indie web through videos!! (thats how I partially found out, because I B watching videoz) I wanna encourage more ppl to switch off socials to make their own sites!! however brachy has a point abt the bots...

i am a big supporter of more people moving away from mainstream socials, and there's plenty of free site templates around that i always like to encourage new users to play with (after all, i got into coding through making templates for my forum pages back when those were still cool). the greater concern is in greater userbase = greater expenses = selling out = enshittification

I'm only here because of that video admittedly. It came at the best possible time for me. I was off work recovering from a surgery feeling sorry for myself. Then I was captivated by his video and was so full of inspiration I spent just about every spare moment I had building a website and connecting with people. I think Neocities bar of entry is perfectly set. People who don't want to work on it won't last.

Sorry if I'm not the only person you've met recently whose been nonstop raving about this laptop, but I did get a yellow Macbook Neo because of the EU-forced repairability AND to spite Microsoft. But it also rocks to use and I can't wait for when I can hack it to put ARM Linux on it someday

I also went to the Apple store an hour south in Delaware to dodge the sales tax and even dug up my dusty old .edu email to claim the student discount. They didn't even check for any student email or ID, they just gave it to me and I do NOT look like a freshman lmao

the only issue with it I have is the soldered on ssd :/ And hell yeah linux mentioned! But I think it will take a long while until drivers are developed for this one

i did something similar a few years ago - macbooks were like $2k in mexico where i lived at the time so i took a bus to texas, crashed on a friend's couch for a few days, got a new macbook and came home all for much cheaper than buying one in MX

a few months ago i got an m1 macbook pro from Back Market for about the same price as the discounted neo. i've honestly been annoyed with how much i enjoy it, as someone who's wanted to switch away from my iphone for years lol

Yeah it's funny, I don't have any other Apple device and I use this thing like a Linux user with the Terminal and shit, but man these laptops rock. Now that they're repairable anyway (I used to love Framework but the price tag on them... eeeesh)

The dominance of Microslop in laptops get weaker and weaker every day, I probably won't buy a macbook any time soon (the neo sounds good tho), but my lenovo would probably be fine with linux mint if I finally find some time to convert to the good side

Finally 100% fully caught up! There's a SHITLOAD of new sticker counts and countries on the Free Stickers page, a few new buttons and a new fanart on the Other Stuff page, and a handful of other little things. NOW I can get back to making other stuff

Lot of love from Belgium recently yes! Also yes you can technically mail to https://www.nsf.gov/geo/opp/antarctic-stamp-collecting and Russia is a deliverable country according to the USPS. Cuba/Iran/North Korea are off limits though
