funnily enough, vscode also does this thing in live preview where if the page is not named index, you HAVE to append the .html or it will say the file was not found 🙄

Still awaiting a response from Neocities, but in the meantime I have found a solution to work for all users. I've made a slight modification to how the URLs are structured when embedding your chats. Please, visit the dashboard, click the edit icon on your chat, and copy the new link to your chat. This is the new embed link and should work 100% for all users permanently!

This seems to be an issue with Neocities, not sure what's happening exactly but I contacted support. I have another version of Chattable running on my server (beta.iframe.chat) that does not suffer from this problem. Which leads me to believe that is exclusively a Neocities error. If the problem doesn't resolve itself, try using a beta.iframe.chat link, all data & accounts are shared between the two websites

Though the method above (using beta.iframe.chat) will only work for supporter accounts as it's self hosted and not hosted on Neocities.

I've also put a reconnecting loop in the 404 page to keep trying to reload the page. Eventually, it does connect. Not sure what's going on with Neocities but it's not an error on Chattable's end. Apologies everyone!

Just a tip for those interested, you can find updates on the new Chattable release on @xobyte on Neocities. I've finally made some decent progress rewriting the logic behind authentication & message posting, just fine tuning a few other things, adding new features, and getting feedback from beta testers before an official relaunch. I'm excited. :D

Per my warnings on the front page & terms of service, modified versions of Chattable's code has been detected and thus, I have discontinued Chattable. When/if I decide to purchase my own VPS or hardware to host my own backend, I may rewrite and relaunch this. The security flaw laid in the fact I used Firebase and everything was written on the front end. It was only a matter of time, but it was a good fun run :)

All of your data is still safe, and will continue to be stored indefinitely so you can always access your old messages. And pick up where you left off when/if I decide to relaunch Chattable. If you're still looking for a live chat for your website, I'd suggest using http://atabook.org in the meantime

bug fixes & whatnot. a confirmation box is now prompted if you try to leave your settings page after making changes & not saving them. Fixed the bug where some users start off with their username set to "null"

Replies on Chattable are looking much cleaner! If you ever replied to a message on Chattable, the experience wasn't pleasant at first and you had to learn it's antics. But it's so much better now with more improvements on the way, give it a try. https://iframe.chat/demo/comment.html
